Hunting Trips: The exact opening date varies each year, but it typically runs from mid-September to mid-October. When you book a hunt with us, our staff will assist you in coordinating available dates.
At check-in, you’ll be provided with a Garmin InReach device, allowing unlimited texting to your phone. This ensures easy communication with Black Moose Outposts as well as with friends and family back home. Additionally, our Luxury include Starlink Wifi and for our Comfort cabins it can be booked for extra charge.
The minimum number of people to book a fishing trip is 4, for hunting trips it is 2-4, depending on location. If you’re less than four please click on the “Request” button at a cabin in our “Stay” section, complete the form, and our team will get back to you with suitable options.
Our biggest cabins at Orono Lake and Critchell Lake fit ten people. Please check our “Stay” section to see the maximum count at each cabin.
Be sure to bring enough food and drinking water for your entire stay, along with extra provisions in case weather delays your departure. Black Moose Outposts also offers a wide selection of food and beverages that can be pre-ordered before your trip. Any supplies purchased from Black Moose Outposts do not count toward your plane’s weight limit.
At Black Moose Outposts we promote “Catch & Release”. However, there is an option of acquiring a sports fishing license for extra charge.
No, all cabins are equipped with live jackets. Please advise in advance if you need youth sizes.
No, we do not sell bait. We are happy to help to connect you with one of our local bait shops. Please notice that live bait is not allowed in all zones. Please inquire with our team for more information.
Each boat can accommodate two people, based on the cabin’s maximum capacity. For example, if a cabin holds eight people, there will be at least four boats available. We continually upgrade our fleet, and in some locations, you’ll find new Lund boats paired with 15-horsepower engines as part of our annual improvements.
At our “Stay” section you’ll find a detailed map of every lake for each cabin.
The three main species to fish for are Walleye, Northern Pike and Lake Trout. Please notice that not all of our lakes contain Lake Trout.
After booking your fishing trip, we will contact you via email three weeks before your stay with all the relevant trip details. In this email, you’ll have the opportunity to preorder food and drinks, check your flight time, and provide participant information so we can arrange your fishing licenses. If you have any questions before then, feel free to email or call us at any time.

Yes we provide 1 aluminum boat with swivel seats and outboard motor for every 2 persons per boat with no limit on gasoline use. So for cabins with a capacity of 10 people we will provide a minimum of 5 boats plus one spare boat and motor. This is included in your overall trip price.
Yes, we now have landing nets and anchors at our camps for your convenience.
No, you do not need to bring your own life jacket. We have new life preservers for all our guests. Please advise in advance if you will need youth sizes.
No, we do not sell bait at Black Moose Outposts. However, we will help you with your bait orders. We work with local bait shops to ensure you have good quality bait for your fishing adventures. Please note that live bait is not allowed at our Northern Camps. Please inquire with our team for more information.
You will need a valid Ontario Outdoors Card and at least an 8-day conservation fishing license. When you book a trip with Black Moose Outposts, we include both documents in your stay and our staff will arrange them for you.
Yes, booking a specific aircraft for your trip is possible subject to availability. Extra charges may apply.
Yes, a maximum weight limit of 300 pounds applies. This includes passenger body weight and gear. Additional weight will be transported at extra cost, subject to availability.

In case of emergency, Black Moose Outposts takes all efforts to pick you up and fly you back to Red Lake.

You might see wildlife like bears, wolves, moose, and various birds. The clear skies are great for stargazing, with the chance to catch the northern lights. Most importantly, it’s a chance to unplug from everyday life and enjoy time with friends or family in a peaceful, remote setting.
Yes, we can pick you up from any airport in Canada with our airplanes. Moreover, we offer a private chef and housekeeping services for our luxury cabins on Orono Lake and Critchell Lake.
The equipment quality varies between our cabin categories. However, all of our cabins include the essentials: solar lights, hot and cold running water, a fridge, a propane cook stove with an oven, and a wood stove for those chilly early-season nights. Additionally, each cabin is equipped with a generator, propane grill, and fish cooker for your convenience. You’ll also find them fully stocked with pots, pans, a coffee maker, dishes, utensils, and cleaning supplies. Please check our “Stay” section for more details.

Yes, children are welcome, and it’s a wonderful opportunity for them to explore and appreciate the beauty of nature. However, please keep in mind that you will be in a remote area with no access to modern infrastructure or amenities.
If not agreed different, flights departure from our base (50 Howey Street, Red Lake, P0V 2M0). Three weeks prior to your stay you’ll receive your flight time via email. Please arrive at our base at least one hour prior to departure. Due to most flights departing early in the morning, we recommend arriving one day earlier in Red Lake. The time for your return flight will be coordinated with our staff during your stay.
Yes, the cabin is reserved just for you and your group. Most cabins are the only ones on the lake.

Yes, preferably one group member is responsible for the booking and deposit procedure.
Bookings can be cancelled until January 31 of the current season. Deposits are not refundable, but can be rolled over for a period of one year.
The full trip price is payable upon Check-Out (cash, cheque or credit card). We reserve the right to request a credit card hold upon Check-in. For credit cards a convenience fee of 4% applies.
The deposit amounts 20% of the final price (non including additional products/services).
