Black Moose Outposts has been giving people unforgettable fly-in fishing and moose hunting adventures in Northwestern Ontario for over 50 years. The outfitter started as Viking Outposts in 1969. In 2021, we took over the legendary Viking Outposts and have been building it into the region’s first premium fly-in outfitter.
Our mission is simple. We want to give anglers and hunters an incredible trip with friends or family where you can enjoy your sport in the best possible conditions. From the moment you board our floatplane to the time you relax in your cabin, we make sure your fishing or moose hunting trip is smooth, fun, and unforgettable.
Our vision at Black Moose Outposts is to be the first name that comes to mind for anyone seeking a fly-in adventure. We strive to give every guest an unforgettable experience with loved ones while making it easy to focus on what matters most, whether catching trophy fish or enjoying a successful moose hunting trip.
Our staff has plenty of experience and knows the lakes well. Before you even step on the floatplane, they will give you tips and guidance so you are ready to make the most of your fishing trip. Our lakes are famous for trophy walleye, northern pike, and lake trout, and long days on the water, shore lunches, and plenty of time with friends and family make every trip special. For moose hunting, our guides are local experts who have hunted these areas for decades. They know the land, the habits of the animals, and take every action to help lead you to a successful and memorable hunt. Each of our 12 cabins sits right on the lake, offering comfort, privacy, and all the amenities you need. We are more than an outfitter. We are your gateway to memorable trips with friends and family in some of Northwestern Ontario’s best fishing and moose hunting spots. Adventure, great sport, and time with the people you care about all start right outside your cabin at Black Moose Outposts.
Nate grew up in the bush around Red Lake, spending his childhood hunting, fishing, and learning the land the northern way. He worked alongside his dad in their family forestry company until the opportunity came to purchase his own outposts and build something of his own. With a passion for the backcountry and having started flying floatplanes at just 17 Nate set out to turn the things he loves most into a way of life. That dream became Black Moose Outpost, where his hobbies of flying, hunting, and fishing became his everyday job. Today, Nate runs Black Moose Outposts with his close team and his dog Nanook welcoming guests to experience the northern wilderness that shaped him.
